Fall Festival Disappointment

I was just telling a friend yesterday how we've never taken our kids to a Fall Festival or anything like that. Bailey is a time bomb and almost ruined our trip to the Fort Bliss Fall Festival this morning because he didn't want to wear pants. This is a common struggle around these parts and usually requires a few minutes on the step in time out before he decides wearing pants or a long sleeve shirt is okay.

After getting everyone ready to go, we were getting in the car when my neighbor walked over to tell us that their 19 year old daughter, who is a young soldier, was killed in a car wreck last night. I'm still trying to absorb that and figure out the best way to minister to our neighbors. She was mainly coming to tell me so that we would be aware why there were so many cars at their house and possibly blocking our garage. So pray for our neighbors, Carolyn and Mark, as they are still processing this loss. They aren't believers so their way of handling their grief has been drinking so far.

We finally left for the Fall Festival and were sorely disappointed. I was expecting some jumping balloons and other activities for the kids. The whole festival was different units with activities and some sort of 'suggested donation' for doing whatever they were offering. Needless to say our boys weren't interested, neither were their parents, in any of that so we spent about an hour and a half on the unshaded plaground.

Here are pictures to prove that we attempted to take our kids to a Fall Festival.

Mavvy must've thought the mini pumpkin I snagged for him was an apple.

Bailey played his little self silly! He loved being on the playground running back and forth between the different play sets. He also saw one of his friends from 'school' there and played with him for a little while. I'll post a video of that later.
Mavvy was running to go play! He's starting to be a fast kid like his big brother. He actually acted like he was going to fall asleep on the swing, but he was just pretending.

Awww, that's too bad about the festival. I would have been bummed too. Cute shirts for the boys, though! If it makes you feel any better, we didn't go to any sort of fall festival or pumpkin patch. And never have! I found out too late that there's a pumpkin patch/corn maze close to us - the last weekend they were open was yesterday and today, but it's stinkin' cold and we also had other plans already! Next year...

The great thing about little kids is that they usually don't really know where you are going or what to expect, so they are seldom disappointed. Sounds like they had a good time, anyway.
