Last night, we did our typical Friday night trip to the mall. We went a little bit earlier than normal because Jake was off work so we were going to let Bailey play before we ate. Our game plan was that Jake would watch Bailey while I went and had a little bit of shopping time. We were all settled in the play area and I made my exit. I had gotten all the way to Mervyn's when my phone rang. It was Jake calling to see if Bailey was with me! My heart dropped and I began immediately walking toward the play area and there was Bailey just wandering down the mall. The only thing I can figure out is that he was following me, but I was a bit ahead of him. I was really bothered by the fact that he walked right past 2 mall security people who didn't think it odd that he was obviously all alone! We normally sit where we can see the exit of the play area just in case Bailey tries to escape, but yesterday all the good seats were taken. When Jake discovered Bailey had wandered off, he was in the process of moving to a seat with a better view. Last night, as I was attempting to fall asleep all I could think about were the WHAT IFs of that situation. I finally gave it to the Lord and thanked Him that the situation wasn't any worse than it was and was able to fall asleep. That crazy kid just has absolutely no fear and such a free spirit that he's constantly walking outside his boundary.
Bailey also discovered the tv in Gymboree! You can see it from certain tables in the food court so I guess we'll have to start sitting by Gymboree so he can watch tv while we eat in peace. Whatever works, right??
In other news, today is the first official Saturday of college football. Aren't all my wife friends excited? It will be a much different season now that we live in Big 12/PAC 10 land and may not get to see many SEC games. It will also be different not getting to hear Jake and Josh go on their endless rants about how bad Auburn plays, even when they win! So in honor of the Auburn Tigers, I've changed my blog color scheme to Navy and Orange. We're supposed to be going to the Commander's house tonight for a cookout, but Jake has already informed him that Auburn is playing a nationally televised game that begins here at about 5:45 so Jake will be near a TV.

Oh my gosh! Yes, thank goodness all turned out okay! I probably would've freaked too. My girls are too clingy.(sometimes good, sometimes bad) They are adventurous when they know they're safe. Like tonite when we went to their favorite park, we were leaving & they were running ahead, but then a VERY loud motorcycle went by. They screamed & came running back to momma!
My husband & MIL are much more paranoid w/them than I am.
Hope you still got some shopping time in! :) -Gail
We had a similar incident with Jason at the Pittsburgh Airport. We lost him for 10-15 minutes but it seemed like hours. But God was watching him even when we weren't. Glad this one ended happily.

This is a link to Bailey & Maverick's Christmas present!!!
at least he didn't end up in the chik-fil-a drive-thru...and thank God he watches our kids when they become Houdini!!! that boy needs a leash...or emma grace to boss his every move.
Brooke gave me a panic moment last week. We hadn't yet put up a gate at the bottom of the stairs b/c she hadn't tried to climb them. I walked back into the den from checking e-mail and couldn't find her anywhere. I looked around for about 30 seconds (panic mounting) and she was nowhere to be found. I heard a rustling upstairs so I ran up and there she was sitting at the top of the stairs! She decided to try climbing and thought she'd go all the way up. Thank you Jesus for pushing her little hiney up there and not letting her fall! The gate went up that afternoon.
This is just another wonderful trait that he inherited from his uncle Josh. Jake could tell you we were always looking for Josh. I hate Jake and Josh weren't together on Saturday cause Auburn really did play bad.
We had a similar incident in the RH mall with Grace when Ella was still new. We were leaving the play area, I turned left and she kept going straight. Pure panic! Thank God I am loud, because when I caught sight of her little blond head, I yelled and she heard me and came running. God is a much better parent than I and sometimes, I guess I need to be reminded of that!
