What a lovely day for a birthday? It began like any other day of my life - 2 boys who think pooping as soon as they wake up is a good idea! After breaking up a few fights, LT decided to take Bailey to the Battery (his office) to get some neosporin for a scrape he has on his elbow. I figured he was up to something. He came home with 2 Krispy Kreme chocolate cake donuts from the Shopette (convenience store). He put 2 candles in one and sang Happy Birthday to me. The other was for Bailey, but Maverick ended up eating it because Bailey didn't show any interest in it until Maverick had already devoured it.
They gave me a couple of cards with some money and LT told me he would stay home with the boys if I wanted to go shopping. Do you think I said no to that? I started making a list of things I could get with my cash! I got dressed and was out the door. FREEDOM!!! I love to shop. I inherited it from my mother who inherited it from her mother. As long as there are not time constraints, I like to just browse and look at all kinds of things.
I started my trip by taking my Storm print to Hobby Lobby to have it framed. I'm going to have to make sure I've had a good strong cup of Starbucks when I go pick it up and actually pay that bill in a couple of weeks. I had no idea custom framing was so expensive! I had to leave Hobby Lobby immediately because I was already indebted to them enough for one day.
I made my way to Kohls. I'm really disillusioned with Kohls. I used to be able to go to Kohls and find all kinds of things and find them on a good sales. The more I go there, which isn't often any more, the more I realize that the only time they ever have a deal worth paying for is when they do their late night-early morning specials. Otherwise, their sale prices aren't sale prices. It really is because I'm cheap and I want to get the maximum bang for my hard earned birthday bucks! Needless to say, I left there empty handed! I carried around one shirt for a little while, but couldn't find a price scanner to see how much it really was. Finally, I just carried it back to its rack and left it there.
Next, I went to Starbucks for a little pick me up! Starbucks in hand, I went to Walmart. I hardly ever go to Walmart so I like to go by myself so I can take full advantage of browsing. Today I wanted to look at a laundry sorter, tubs, little boy swimming pools, little boy shoes, and curtains, among many other things. It was a somewhat successful stop and I ended up talking to my brother while I waited in line at the checkout so that made it all the better.
Finally, I don't venture outside the box much, so I went to Target! They had a patio storage bench on sale this week so I wanted to look at it. I wasn't going to spend my birthday money on it, of course, but I was going to see if it was worth the sale price. I've wanted/needed one since we moved out here and I'm too cheap to pay full price for one. I almost bought one on clearance last year at Target, but passed it up and didn't get back in time to actually get one. The store I went to today didn't even have any in stock so that was a bummer. I ended up buying a set of plastic drawers, some clear tubs, and a small vacuum that was on clearance.
I can't believe I made it home without buying a stitch of clothing for myself. It really is a miracle, but it comes back to being picky and cheap! I still have some birthday bucks left so I might hit some Memorial Day sales on Monday.
The children have celebrated my birthday by being as bad as they can be. This morning, while LT and Bailey were gone getting donuts at the Shopette, Maverick threw a full, opened can of Coke Zero at me because he knew he was in trouble when I saw it in his hand. Bailey poured about a one inch layer of dirt in Maverick's hair while they played outside this afternoon. I had to hose Maverick down to get it all out! I'm sure Maverick stood there and laughed while Bailey did it. They've fought over every toy we own. They fought because both of them wanted to play in the same window sill. It's not like there isn't an identical one on the other side of the TV! Can't we all just get along - if for no other reason than it simply being mommy's birthday?

Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY...and no, the children can't just all get along - esp. mommy's day - we had "issues" mother's day - agh! Glad you had a dough nut, too, that's my girl! So glad you had a nice "away" day. Love you!
Jen, happy belated b-day. Sorry the boys didn't help make it a little more pleasant, but glad you got some free time to go shopping. I'm beginning to treasure the times I get to go shopping by myself, unless it's late in the evening.
God Bless, -Gail
