Maybe It's Just Me

We've always been huge fans of the Biggest Loser, probably because we have weight issues. I think I've mentioned before that neither of us come from skinny genes. I've managed to do okay keeping my weight somewhat under control - not always where I'd like to be! Well, except when I'm pregnant. I gained 50lbs with both Bailey and Maverick! LT lost almost 100 lbs in the couple of years before we got married and has managed to keep most of it off for about 6 years now. Mandatory PT helps his efforts for sure!

If you watched the Biggest Loser last night and saw
Amy P's post ranch, back in Greenville, SC update, you heard her say she went from being a size 20 to currently being a size 8! Was I the only woman in the world who screamed at her TV, "There's NO WAY she's wearing a size 8!"??? I know the camera adds 10 lbs, but there's just no way her body fit in a size 8! I've been a size 8 and I weighed 135 lbs and an 8 was still a stretch, literally, for me. I'm sure she's had to invest in Spanx to help deal with some of her excess skin. I really do applaud her weight loss because I know it's a very hard thing to do, but let's be honest with the viewers about sizes and weight!

Biggest Loser isn't the only show that I think stretches the truth about sizes and weight. Watch television on a Saturday morning and you'll see infomercial after infomercial for workout videos, diet supplements, etc where they show before and after pictures that are not true representatives of the numbers they're displaying. I guess you can say you wear whatever size you want if you can get it to zip once, but that doesn't mean it fits, flatters or is something you should wear in public! Those who fall into that category need to be reported to Stacy and Clinton on
What Not To Wear.

I must be in a six!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that! Maybe I just need to find out where she's shopping so I can go down a couple of sizes, too -- forget dieting, just shop somewhere else!!

Preach it, sister! That reminds me of a time I was in a store at the mall, trying on clothes. I was finally making my purchase after a bitter disappointment about a certain dress I wanted to buy. The x-small technically fit me, but it was way too tight. The medium was too big and there were no smalls to be had - they even called all the stores in the city for me! So, I sadly said good-bye to the dress and was paying for a pair of shorts. A lady came in, who was very tall and at least two sizes bigger than me. She was an attractive, fit looking woman, but no where near my size. She grabbed that x-small dress that the store clerk had laid aside and immediately went to pay for it. The girl asked her "Don't you want to try it on?" She said, "Oh no, it'll be just fine!" I was already disappointed that it was too small for ME, so I was snickering to myself, "Yeah right, lady! Don't kid yourself!" Some people...

Hello Jen,
Okay, I am Jenny Neumann born Jenny Barrientes. A while back I went into my old dormant myspace account to cancel it and I saw your friend request. I looked and looked and had no idea who you were because I remembered the high school Jennifer B. who always had a pony tail and no makeup. And on your blog, your wedding photo (very fab by the way) and other photos show a put together woman with a stylish short do. You look great. And I do now have you on my favorites and stop by from time to time meaning to leave a hello note. So Voila here I am. And I so appreciated the coffee coupon last week by the way. Yummy. But as to today's topic, oh, yeah, AMEN. In my skinniest times (about 5 years ago) I actually wore a size 2 dress to a wedding but in my heart I knew they had been generous in the sizing and that I was actually a size 6. Every other article of clothing in my closet didn't dare go any smaller than a 6. But had you dared to ask me, after all my struggle for weight control (I feel as you, that I have always battled average to chunky size)what size I was I might have said something like "I fit into a size two". Yeah, all about accentuating the positive. Happy blogging.
